disAbility Research Associates
Company Facilities, Equipment, & Accessibility
Facilities: The Company’s headquarters occupy 785 square feet of a brick and frame former residential building located in Belmont, MA, in direct proximity to the rich educational and research resources of Boston, a major international seat of higher learning, and its excellent libraries. This location affords the company access to consulting Associates drawn from the best of the local academic and business communities.
Data Processing Equipment: The Company employs PC laptop computer configurations with docking stations, so that Associates’ software and files can readily accompany them on business travel for use in the field. Typical equipment is the Hewlett Packard Compaq Notebook laptop with its AMD E-300 APU Processor operating @ 1.3 GHz, with 4.00 GB RAM, a 320 GB hard drive, a 64-bit OS, and a 15.6-inch display with HD graphics. The Windows 8 operating system enables us to take full advantage of the applications suite of Microsoft Office 2013, as well as current Adobe Acrobat applications, for speedy research and word processing.
Data Security: When a laptop is in use at an office workstation, its user has access to attachments like a large flat screen monitor and other keyboard options. Upon return from travel and otherwise on a routine schedule, data files are backed up to an external Seagate FreeAgent hard drive with 232 GB storage capacity; this safeguards against the possibility of data loss or file corruption. Sensitive electronic data are secured in encrypted, pass-worded files; the systems are protected by Norton Internet Security. Sensitive hard copy materials are secured in locked file cabinets.
Telecommunications: A pass-worded, secure, high-speed Verizon wireless Internet service is available to all Company computers with a 50 Mbps download speed and a 25 Mbps upload speed. Peripherals also include a Brothers HL2440D series laser printer with double-sided printing capability, a Cannon inkjet MX700 series color printer, copier, scanner, and FAX machine. Our AT&T CL2909 telephone setup with Verizon has unlimited long distance service, caller ID, call waiting, hold, and mute features for conferencing.
Accessibility: Company parking includes a designated street-side HP parking space adjacent to the front entrance, clearly marked by signage on a post. The first floor office suite is entered by a 36-inch-wide door (with lever lockset) via a sturdy steel wheelchair ramp with a textured permeable surface and double railings. The interior offers an accessible route of travel to office space with Braille signage, employee lounge, accessible unisex restroom, and accessible kitchen amenities, as well as an employee lunchroom. There is a specially configured L-shaped wheelchair workstation with 32-inch-high work surface supported by elevated piers of drawers that include lockable file drawers within a wheelchair user’s reach. Equipment is deployed on accessible surfaces, and all lighting and climate controls are mounted no higher than 48 inches.
